Thame’s Best Takeaway – Indian – Round 13 – Dewani Shahs

For the thirteenth and final review of Thame's Best Takeaway, our foodie will be getting an Indian takeaway from Dewani Shahs.  With Mings, Smarts, Atalay's Kebab Van and Patrons in the finals, it was time for our foodie to complete the review by picking Thame's best Indian.

The Indian takeaways we have reviewed are The Star and Garter, House of Spice and Dewani Shahs.

To keep the review fair, the following dishes will be ordered:

  • Chicken Korma
  • Lamb Madras
  • Pilau Rice
  • Keema Naan
  • Two poppadoms

The review will be based upon: the best quality, taste, portion size, and also what is best value for money.

So for the third and final part of the Indian review, here is the Dewani Shahs revew.

“So the final review in the Indian section and whole series of Thame's Best Takeaway. It's been...filling...very filling! Last on the list is Dewani Shahs, who are based up Swan Walk, and very close to The House Of Spice.

The usual order, and I'm not sure what to expect. I know of people who say 'don't eat in' here, and others have said the food is brilliant. So I was very much looking forward to finding out for myself.

The wait time was good - I arrived exactly 20 minutes after ordering, and my meal was ready! The price was actually cheaper than The Star and Garter and House Of Spice, coming in at £19.55. Good start - which got better when I opened up the individual containers to lovely colours and a strong, spiced scent.

After plating up and photographing the food, I finally sat down to tuck in - the food was still hot throughout which was great.

Starting off with the madras, which was completely different to House of Spice and the Star and Garter, it was enjoyable, had a slight kick. It probably sits somewhere in the middle of both the previous contestants. But not bad at all!

Mixing this in with the rice was a must, as the rice was a little dry, and mopping up the sauce with my keema naan, which was filled with hot meat and tasted great - probably the best keema naan of the competition!

The korma was also very similar to the House of Spice, thick and creamy sauce, full of flavour and enjoyable. Very happy that it's given the House of Spice a good challenge..

I have to say, I'm impressed with the quality of this curry. A quick service and the food was decent. It could of done with more heat in the madras and the rice was certainly not the star of the show. But all in all, a lovely way to end the competition.

So that’s all of the Indian reviews complete. And for me, there is one clear winner. (Drum roll please!)....The House of Spice is a very worthy winner, and after all their years on Thame's High Street they still offer a fantastic service and most importantly, a really high quality curry!!“

So that's it, all of Thame's Takeaways have been reviewed. The final five finalists are Mings, Smarts, Atalay's Kebab Van, Patrons and The House of Spice. Stay tuned later in the week where we will be announcing the winner of Thame's Best Takeaway, and there will be a special takeaway themed competition.
