Thame’s Best Takeaway – Pizza Delivery – Round 9 – Dominos

For the ninth review of Thame’s Best Takeaway, our foodie will be getting a pizza delivery from  Dominos to review their margherita pizza.  With Mings, Smarts and Atalay’s Kebab Van in the finals it was up to either Patrons or Dominos to see if they could take the best pizza in Thame crown.

To keep the review fair, we decided that a medium margherita pizza would be ordered via the takeaway’s online app and it would then be delivered.

The review will be based upon: the best quality, taste, portion size, speed of delivery and also what is best value for money.

In the pizza section we have tried to keep it as fair as possible, so we will only be reviewing Dominos and Patrons Pizza, as they are the only takeaways that deliver pizzas in Thame.

So for the first review in the pizza delivery section here is the Dominos review.

“So we move onto the pizza round. I’ve been looking forward to this round since the start, as I haven’t had a pizza delivered to my house before. I’d previously downloaded the app in the day to have a flick about and it seemed very easy to navigate around. I placed my order of one medium margherita, and it came to a whopping £11.99. I know Dominos do various different discounts if you are collecting from the store or buying multiple items. But for this review it was one single margherita, ordered on a Saturday evening, so there were no discounts as far as I could see. Dominos medium pizza come in at 11.50 inches, which seems more than reasonable for a medium. I thought i’d also add that there was no delivery charge when ordering from Dominos. But then I should hope not with the price of the pizza!

So after placing my order, I sat down and watched as the application showed me exactly what was happening with my pizza. 13 minutes later there was a knock at my door and my pizza had arrived. I couldn’t believe how quick it was. It would have taken longer for me to stick one in the oven and cook it myself.

The pizza was cut into 8 slices and my immediate thoughts were that the cheese looked slightly overdone as it was a little black (Some people may like it like that though). I lifted up the pizza to check the box underneath and there was minimal grease.

So now to actually get to the taste…. The pizza was piping hot, I was a little worried with the 13 minute wait and the delivery time afterwards that it might not be as warm as if i’d cooked it at home, but this wasn’t the case. It was piping hot throughout. The tomato was really strong and flavoursome, and the blackened cheese on top hadn’t affected the taste at all.

There was a light taste of garlic and oregano which i thought was a nice touch. Some pizzas can feel really unhealthy but this felt really light as I ate it. The crusts were just right, not too crispy, and not too soft. There was even a pot of garlic and herb for me to dip into if I wanted to.

Overall I thought this pizza was excellent, a margherita is the most plain pizza you can get, but Dominos had really brought it to life with all the wonderful flavours in it. 13 minutes to cook and deliver a pizza was incredible. The only downside being that I had to pay £11.99 for this. With pizzas in the big supermarkets costing around 8 or 9 pounds cheaper, was it that much better, to deserve that price hike? Probably not but it was delicious none the less.”

With the competition hotting up, stay tuned for Round 10 as our foodie samples Patrons Pizza delivery next week.
