Better Leisure

GLL manage almost 400 public service facilities nationwide, including leisure centres, libraries and cultural venues. Better is the community gateway to the affordable services and activities run by GLL. From leisure centres and gyms to libraries and venue hire. It’s the name the public sees when they book a swim, attend a fitness class, borrow a book, or explore what’s on in their local area.

Operated by Better in partnership with South Oxfordshire District Council, Thame Leisure Centre provides access to modern fitness and leisure facilities, making it a popular choice for residents looking to improve their wellbeing.

The centre offers a range of activities designed to help people of all ages stay active, healthy, and engaged in their local community. Workout your way in the fully equipped gym, which features cardio machines, resistance equipment, and free weights spread across two floors, including a newly refurbished functional training zone. You can also enjoy access to a wide variety of fitness classes, including yoga, Pilates, HIIT, group cycling, aqua aerobics, circuits, and strength-conditioning sessions. These classes cater to different fitness levels, allowing members to find activities that suit their goals and preferences.

What’s more - you can also make a splash in the 25-metre pool, which is perfect for lane swimming or family fun, while the learner pool makes it easy for kids to build confidence in the water. There are badminton and basketball courts in the sports hall, plus pickleball sessions if you want to try something different. Dedicated junior and senior sessions are also available, with sessions to match every pace.

There are a whole range of Better memberships for you to choose from that support you and your family's health and wellbeing. From UK-wide access to all our centres and facilities, to support in your pocket with Live Better. You'll have the freedom to try new activities and time for your favourites. With these memberships, you can pay by a rolling monthly Direct Debit without a long-term contract, or annually. Pay as you go memberships and daily passes are also available.

Your moves make a difference. Every visit, membership or booking with Better helps improve the lives of your local community. See the difference you make when you show up at Thame Leisure Centre.

Death Cafe @ Thame Barns Centre
You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space.
