Thame United results from the weekend fixtures

Thame United First team had a Friday night fixture under the lights against Kings Langley, it was a game of two halfs, Thame dominating in the first half with an impressive offensive performance, with Harry Alexander scoring twice to go into the break 2 – 0 to the good. Then a solid defensive display in the second half to keep Kings Langley at bay and hold out for the victory.

Thame United A were also in action on Friday night in the Hellenic League Division 2 East when they hosted Aston Clinton Sports at Meadow View Park, the visitors ran out 0 – 4 winners.

Thame United Reserves were in cup action in the Presidents Cup as they made the trip to Shipston Excelsior FC who play in Division 1 of the Oxfordshire Senior League, hoping to start a cup run and continue their good start to the season. A Jamieson Hunt brace secured a comfortable win on the road, with the team also securing their 3rd clean sheet in five games.

In the Aylesbury and District League, it was mixed fortunes for our teams. In division one, Thame United B took on Aylesbury Hornets at home and after back to back defeats, got back to winning ways with a battling win. Captain Julian Reed popping up with the match winning goal, to give a 1 – 0 victory to the home side which moves them up to fifth place in the league. Over in Division two, Thame United C suffered their third straight defeat, this time going down 2 – 0 to Steeple and Ludgershall despite a good performance.

On Sunday Thame Women were in cup action in the Thames Valley Women’s League Cup when they hosted Brook House Women in the preliminary round. The team continued their impressive start to the season with 4 – 1 victory and progress through to the next round. Two goals each from India Cox and Yasmin Williams helped to secure the win.

The second “Carwithen Music Festival” will continue the celebration and legacy of Doreen Carwithen’s music, in the village of Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, where she was born. It will also continue to explore the connections between Doreen and other male/female composers of the time. Dr Leah Broad’s book “Quartet”, published by Faber, and now the deserved winner of a Royal Philharmonic Society award, is the first book to celebrate Doreen’s life alongside other influential female composers. Leah will be at the festival to sign copies of her book and to narrate Friday night’s concert (July 11th) which features some wonderful music analysed in the book.
