Thame Players Hit the Nail on the Head with their Production of Tom Jones!

Don’t miss Thame Players’ production of Tom Jones, now playing at the Players Theatre until Saturday 15th July. This is what one reviewer said -

“Billed as a ‘Bawdy Romp’ and ‘Before Bridgerton there was Tom Jones’, this production does not disappoint.  Tom Jones, originally a comic novel by English playwright and novelist Henry Fielding, was first published on 28 February 1749 in London (I wonder what the ‘woke’ brigade of the eighteenth century made of it?), and has recently been dubbed ‘One of the funniest, lustiest novels of all time’.

“Thame Players have a habit of bringing professional productions to their amateur stage and this is their latest effort to comply. Directed by Col Lee with a cast of 21, some with juicy parts that they well and truly live up to, this was a very enjoyable show. No actor lets their colleagues down – all hit the nail on the head.

“Robbie Wratten has the title role.  And boy, does he take it on with enthusiasm! The story reflects Tom’s journey through his sexual encounters in rural Somerset, as he hops from one bedchamber to another - until he finally comes unstuck and has to face the music.

“He is supported throughout by other actors, some with small parts, others with more key roles, all brilliantly fulfilled. It’s worth looking out for Andy Dale’s Constable, Tina Hine’s Mrs Waters and Molly Rogers’ strumpet, Molly Seagrim.

“It’s even worth going along to see this ‘romp’ just for the wigs and costumes.  They are excellent and, not for the first time, Thame Players’ wardrobe department needs to be congratulated.”

It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
