Cambridge 24 Chinnor 57
Chinnor romped to a thrilling 9 try win in a display that was a fitting tribute to their inspirational captain on his 100th appearance.
From the 1st minute Chinnor played with a passion and pace that was just too hot for the Blood and Sand to handle. In beautiful late summer sunshine the visitors attacked from deep and a huge bust by the powerful Passman was finished in style by Feeney. Conor Slevin on an extremely accomplished debut kicked the extras, his tally eventually finished on 22 points including a brace of well taken tries, His all round game management in tandem with maestro Carter meant Chinnor were a constant threat.
The dream start continued on 7 minutes when all action Number 8 Izzy Wharton burst through a gap and showed great pace to sprint over from 50 metres. Walker then added his usual try from a driving maul after some conspicuous work from George Shaw, another who enjoyed a superb debut.
Again Chinnor attacked from deep and after some incredible dancing feet from Grant Hughes , Gossy stormed down the wing before releasing the supporting Slevin to notch his first try.
Cambridge did notch their first when the dangerous Caven slipped through. 5-28 at Half Time.
Cambridge came out firing and narrowed the gap to 12-28.
However fittingly the Captain fantastic charged down a clearing kick and managed to retrieve the bouncing ball and crash over.
Some amazing work from Hughes and Pascoe then saw Slevin score his 2nd in an amazing length of the pitch score.
Gossy rounded off the scoring with typical predatory finishes on 2 occasions, especially when he regained a hanging Slevin restart.
Cambridge managed to get a losing bonus when Cavem scored his second.
What an amazing day for the the travelling supporters .
They’ll be tough games ahead but we must celebrate our successes. Nick Easter knows there are still big improvements to be made and the boys will be working hard to produce.
