Sands announced as Lightfoots Solicitors’ charity of the year

Leading law firm, Lightfoots Solicitors has announced that it will be supporting Sands as their nominated Charity of the Year. Staff at Lightfoots will aim to raise £2,000 to help fund the charity’s work of saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families.

Currently in the UK, 13 families a day suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby before, during or shortly after birth. And at least 15% of pregnancies end in miscarriage.

No baby should have a higher risk of dying because of their parents’ postcode, ethnicity, or income. Sands is discovering the reasons why babies die, improving care and reducing inequalities.

Many baby deaths could be prevented through a combination of targeted research and better care, informed by good hospital review processes. Sands make sure bereaved families’ experiences shape research, enabling them to leave a lasting legacy for their baby.

The charity amplifies the voices of bereaved families and healthcare professionals, campaigns for change in policy and practice, and funds research to understand why babies die. With support from Sands, dedicated healthcare teams can stay up to date with developments in maternity and neonatal care guidance, meaning more and more babies will go on to lead healthy, happy lives.

For more than 40 years, Sands has been here for anyone affected by pregnancy and baby loss to offer understanding and comfort. Sands believes every bereaved family has a right to the same high standard of care and support, where, when and how they need it.

Lauren Blake and Louise Nunn, Chairs of the Charity Committee at Lightfoots Solicitors, said:

“Caring for families, individuals and the community around us is important to us at Lightfoots. Our newly launched Charity Committee has big plans to raise funds and awareness of Sands, our 2023/ 2024 Charity of the Year and we hope to make a difference to those who need it most.”

Chloë Brunton-Dunn, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Sands, said:

“We are delighted that Lightfoots Solicitors has pledged to support Sands this year. Sands is determined to save babies’ lives and make a real difference to the support that bereaved families across the UK receive. But we can only continue to deliver our crucial work with the support of organisations like Lightfoots.

“You can help to transform society and build a world where fewer babies die; a legacy for the memory of every baby who has died and the life of every baby yet to be born. Thank you for helping to be there for every baby, for every family.”

You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
