The latest prediction by the Electoral Calculus website shows that the Lib Dems and Conservatives are neck and neck in the Henley and Thame constituency.
Less than 1% of the vote separates the two parties.
The poll, which was published last week, forecasts that the Lib Dems will receive 34.1% of the votes versus 33.4% for the Conservatives.
Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Freddie van Mierlo said
“I am encouraged by this latest poll, and we know it’s going to be a very close election.
“I have been out campaigning for the last few months and I have spoken to thousands of people on the doorstep and what I’m hearing is that it’s time for a change.
“There is no prize for second place and it’s clear that the next MP in this constituency will either be me or a Conservative.
“Many Labour and Green supporters have already told me that they will lend me their vote, I will be working hard to persuade as many others as possible to do so.”
In the most recent local elections in May 2023, not one Conservative councillor was elected in the Henley and Thame constituency. The Lib Dems have steadily built support locally and now lead five out of the six main councils in Oxfordshire.
In a First Past the Post electoral system, many people have become more aware of tactical voting as a mechanism to get the Tories out, and Carol Vorderman, in a recent interview with Politics Joe quoted that in Henley and Thame the tactical vote is the Lib Dems.
The General Election is on the 4 July and you need to be registered to vote to take part, it is also the first General Election where you will need photo voter ID and you can find the list of what’s included here.
