On Sunday 16th June 2024 over 1,000 ducks went swimming one day… And what a race it was!

24th June 2024

Please see the below update from Thame & District Round Table 753

hank you, THAME! 🙌 For another quacking Duck Race for 2024! It is one of the most fun and quackers events in our calendar, and we absolutely loved it! The feather forecast looked good ☀️, the sun was out at the quack of dawn, and the ducks were golden 🐤 (with the addition of a few blue ones this year!)

It wouldn’t be an event without the support of those of you who buy tickets, help spread the word, and show up to support the race - so a HUGE thank you from all of us at Thame & District Round Table 753 and we truly hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!

Across the entire, brilliant, swashbuckling weekend - including the awesome Thame Carnival on Saturday and the Duck Race on Sunday - you helped us to raise over £5,300 which will be shared between local groups and charities!✨

We love doing this year-on-year and it’s only possible with the help of some amazing groups and individuals that help make these events a success. So a massive thank you 🙏 too ...

Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire - Who volunteer their time and equipment, and provide safe passage past Captain Ducky (and this year the mutinous Captain Duckbeard!) Their teams carry out tireless lifesaving work and we’re incredibly thankful that you give your time to enjoy this event with us each year.

Rubicon Drones - Nigel and his team who this year not only supplied air and land, but also sea(!) footage of the race, with the addition of Duck-O-Vision! - All capturing the absolute enjoyment and fun of the event.

Nathan Swift (Swifty) - Our mic master, local celebrity, and commentator extraordinaire. It’s a multi-tasking skill to navigate the river bank and provide such exceptional race commentary to over 1,000 “yellow ducks with orange beaks”

Pirate Captains - Captain Ducky & Captain Duckbeard - for being arrr favourite Pirates, giving us some master shipbuilding and epic swashbuckling skills. We hope you’ve now managed to dry out!

Simon and Danny Wyse - Who maintain the field and mowed the path so that we could all follow along and and enjoy a good view of the duck racers

Thame Cricket Club - For allowing us to use their facilities again this year for the cleaning of the ducks. And of course… The Duck Washers! - it’s not easy getting them all squeaky clean post-race, and we’re very grateful for everyone who volunteered their time and washing-up liquid.

Thame Town Council - For seamless support and speedy communication in enabling us to bring this event to the public.

Our Town Mayor, Cllr Andy Gilbert, and Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr David Dawson - For joining us on Sunday and helping tip the ducks to commence the race!

Every member and their families of Thame Round Table & Thame & Mid Oxon 41 Club - it takes a lot of preparation but it is immensely rewarding being a part of these events. The most priceless resource we have is time to do more for our community, and we are forever grateful for our members and our families who support us.

The ducks are tucked up again for another year, congratulations to the WINNERS! 🏆 And we look forward to seeing you at Thame Round Table Duck Race in 2025!
