News Update from Sharing Life Trust

13th March 2024

Please see the below update from Sharing Life Trust.

We want to say a big thank you to our volunteers and to the wider Thame community for helping us to get through what has been the busiest winter so far for the foodbank.  Your time and the generous donations of both food items and money have greatly helped. Sharing Life couldn’t run without you!

Foodbank use in February. We have changed the way that we are reporting this information so that it more accurately reflects the support that we are giving. During February:

• 159 food parcels were delivered.

• These provided food for 76 different households • In these households there were a total of 103 adults and 91 children • 79% of these households were referred to us for support by one of our partner agencies and the rest were self-referrals.

It’s worth noting that we only provide food parcels to households that self-refer for a maximum of 2 weeks. If it is clear that the need is longer term, then we will always recommend clients to meet with one of the support agencies such as Citizens Advice.

Food donations: If you have a smartphone, please help us by downloading the “Bank the Food’ app. We have a big supply of pasta and baked beans (the first thing many people think of to give) but often run out of other important staple food items. If you use the app you can be sure you are donating our most needed items. You can download it free from the App Store and GooglePlay. Use this QR code for the link.

The Community Larder which meets at Christchurch every Thursday afternoon between 2.30p.m. and 4.30p.m. now has 156 members with a regular attendance of at least 130 each week. This is open to everyone for a small membership fee. If you want to help reduce supermarket waste or would like access to a really cheap way to top up your larder, then do join us. You will find full information on our website.

Death Cafe @ Thame Barns Centre
You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
