More 20mph Speed Limits Proposed for Thame

11th July 2024

Oxfordshire City Council is proposing to introduce additional sections of 20mph speed limits in Thame, replacing the majority of 30mph speed limits in the town.

In December 2023, the majority of 20mph proposals put forward in October 2023 were approved by the Cabinet Member for Transport Management. However, a reassessment by officers of the speed limits on Oxford Road, Kingsey Road, Youens Drive, and Thame Park Road was suggested, requiring further consultation and approval.

The refined proposals seek to introduce additional sections of 20mph speed limits in the town by extending the speed limit outwards to points on the:

  • B4445 Aylesbury Road – a point 59 metres south of its roundabout junction with the A418, B4011, and A4129,
  • B4445 Chinnor Road/Garden City – its roundabout junction with the B4012 & the B4445 Chinnor Road,
  • Jane Morbey Road – its junction with Thame Park Road,
  • Kingsey Road – a point 50m southwest of its roundabout junction with the A4129 & the B4012,
  • Massey Road – its junction with Thame Park Road,
  • Oxford Road – a point 35 metres east of its roundabout junction with the A329 & A418.

Various lengths of the 30mph speed limit will be retained within the town – specifically on the B4012 Howland Road, B4012 Wenman Road, B4445 Chinnor Road, Dormer Road, Lupton Road, Station Yard, and Thame Park Road – with Officers having taken the current road environment and traffic usage into account.

Existing 40mph and 50mph speed limits will remain unaffected by the new proposals.
