A Thame-based woman has been reunited with other members of the People’s Assembly for Nature on a popular podcast from UK climate charity Carbon Copy.
In late 2022, Rebecca Lester and 102 others representing a cross-section of the British public came together in Birmingham, supported by the three major organisations behind this project: WWF, RSPB and the National Trust. Over the course of the next few weeks, they learned, discussed, debated and documented information and ideas about the state of nature in the UK. Their contributions, along with input from thousands of people around the country, were pulled together to form a unique document called the People’s Plan for Nature.
A year on from its release, this episode of the Carbon Copy Podcast tells the stories of some of those involved with its creation, to learn how participating in this unique collaboration has impacted them and their lives.
Ms. Lester, who works at a local housing association said:
“Participating in the People’s Assembly for Nature was incredibly eye-opening. I always enjoyed spending time outdoors and in nature, but I had no idea the extent to which wildlife and green places in the UK are under threat. Although it has been a whole year since the document was published, its impact is ongoing. It’s hugely powerful to have this public mandate for change, and with this being a general election year, we are hoping that parties across the political spectrum will be committing to action.”
