Little Shop of Horrors Comes to Thame

Little Shop of Horrors is one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows and has been produced worldwide with incredible success for over 30 years. Now this sci-fi smash hit musical comedy makes its debut at the Players Theatre in Thame from 12th – 17th September.

The story follows meek floral assistant Seymour, a nerdy orphan, who works at Mushnik's flower shop on Skid Row. He stumbles across a new breed of plant which he names Audrey II after a crush on a co-worker. Audrey II is a foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore which promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it blood. Before long, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this world origins and plans for global domination! This hilariously horrible musical also includes the hit songs Suddenly Seymour; Feed Me; Skid Row; and Somewhere That’s Green.

At the beating heart of this show, which has become one of the most popular in the world, are four diabolical Audrey II plants that portray Audrey from seedling to psychopath. They are represented by professionally designed puppets, which have been specially hired in for this production at considerable cost. This has been made possible thanks to generous funding by Thame Players’ sponsor, local law firm Lightfoots Solicitors.

Joe Middleton, managing partner of Lightfoots, said, “We’re delighted that our sponsorship this year is being used to fund the Audrey II puppets, which are the highlight of Thame Players’ production of Little Shop of Horrors. We are proud to support Thame Players in this way, helping them to put on superb shows that draw audiences. I am also honoured that our sponsorship of Thame Players helps to ensure the theatre remains a popular and valued cultural resource in the town.”

Tom Mackriell, who directs Thame Players’ production of Little Shop of Horrors, said, “We extend a huge thank you to Lightfoots for supporting us through the hire of the amazing Audrey II puppets, which are truly a sight to behold and will have audiences open-mouthed!  Our talented cast are working hard to make this botanical bloodfest a production to remember, and thanks to Lightfoots’ support in this way, it will certainly be a stunner!”

The Times said Little Shop of Horrors was, "Gloriously succulent and deliciously sinister; exuberantly excessive, and as thrillingly, dangerously seductive as a beribboned bouquet of triffids”. Thame Players’ production is expected to be hugely popular, so get your tickets now and enjoy one of the funniest – and hungriest – musicals you’ll ever hope to see!
