The site for the proposed Lidl store off Aylesbury Road has a history of flooding from both river and surface water, while groundwater levels are also a concern. The Environment Agency and District Council’s Drainage Team have both said they still need information from Lidl to judge what would happen should the store and its car park be built.
The Drainage Team are looking for extra plans that show the levels across the intended site and details of how finished slopes will be built to keep them stable.
The Environment Agency are calling on Lidl to answer questions they raised in February and June this year. The Agency is after detail on how a range of floods would affect people and property, both on and off the site. They have asked Lidl to show the effect of climate change and demonstrate how their design would keep the store safe over its lifetime from all sources of flooding, while not increasing risk elsewhere.
The Environment Agency and District Council are still waiting for a response from Lidl.
