Celebrating their 25th anniversary year, the amazing New Foxtrot Serenaders are returning to the Players Theatre, Thame on Sunday 25th September.
They are bringing their latest show, The Fabulous 40s - From Bing to Swing, a celebration of the swing era featuring the music of the greatest swing bands and crooners of the 1940s. Amongst the repertoire featured will be the music of Benny Goodman, Woody Guthrie, Glenn Miller, Harry James, Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior. This is a musical feast for anyone who enjoys the music of the 1930s and 1940s!
The Serenaders, founded in 1997, isa seven-piece dance band composed of Graham Wright on trumpet, cornet and vocals; Paul Williams on alto and soprano saxophones, clarinet and flute; Richard Pywell on slide trombone; John Elliott on tuba; John Beaumont on piano; Roy Chilton on banjo and double bass; and Graham Dare on drums. The band members’ collective musical experience is highly varied and includes jazz and soul, classical concerts, West End productions, ballet and opera, TV and radio broadcasts, state and military occasions and even Changing the Guard. This rich heritage is what inspires their expertise performing music of the swing era.
The swing era was the first jazz idiom that proved commercially successful, and it was hugely popular as the pop music of its day. It gave rise to stars from Fats Waller and Glenn Miller to Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald, whose music remains popular 80 years later. The New Foxtrot Serenaders will transport you into the fabulous music of the swing era – this is a show not to be missed, so come to the Players Theatre for a musical treat on Sunday!
