CPRE is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to protecting the countryside and its rural communities. CPRE Oxfordshire exists to do just this for the County of Oxfordshire.
CPRE, the Countryside Charity, has been standing up for the countryside for nearly a century. We work locally and nationally to protect, shape, and enhance a beautiful, thriving countryside for everyone to value and enjoy.
We would like all residents to know we are here to support and help safeguard the beauty and sustainability of our rural landscapes. We can advise, inform, and give a bigger voice in response to damaging planning applications, the destruction of Green Belt land, countryside access and footpaths, light pollution and dark skies, sustainable transport, infrastructure, healthy rivers, water pollution and sustainable water supplies, and renewable energy.
Founded in 1926, CPRE has a rich history of advocating for the countryside, and we would like to reinvigorate its dedication to preserving, enhancing, and celebrating the natural treasures of Oxfordshire.
Under the banner of “A Countryside for All,” CPRE is focusing on three key pillars:
- Protecting the Landscape from harmful development, advocating responsible planning and land use. The charity will continue to be the voice for those who cherish the scenic beauty of our rural areas.
- Promoting Sustainability: Embracing the urgent need for environmental sustainability, CPRE will champion initiatives to mitigate climate change, support sustainable agriculture, and encourage local food production.
- Connecting People with Nature: The charity will strive to connect people of all ages and backgrounds with the countryside, promoting the physical and mental well-being that nature can provide.
Our countryside faces various challenges, from housing development pressures to climate change. CPRE is ready to take on these challenges with renewed vigour, working in collaboration with communities, governing bodies, NGO’s and partners to ensure a thriving countryside that benefits everyone.
