Costa helps to spread a little happiness in Thame

After recent years, you’d be forgiven for struggling sometimes to raise a smile. However, if you’d like to learn what doctors, psychologists and faith leaders believe make us happier, now’s your chance.

The new manager of our local Costa has agreed to host a 6-week course on happiness course that is being run by local resident and business woman Helen Bancroft in one of their upper rooms.

Costa Manager Vishal said, ‘After previously living in big cities it was quite a contrast moving into Thame, but since I arrived I have felt really welcomed by the community. In fact, coming here has felt like coming home. And so, it is great to be able to support this local community initiative to spread more happiness in Thame.’

‘Today, we all assume that everybody is okay, but sadly so many people suffer in silence with depression, hurts and heartaches. And, while this course won’t solve all problems it aims to give tools and techniques that lead to a happier life. I am a mother of 3 children and have lived in Thame for over 20 years and I am looking forward to doing something community-focussed to support local people, ’ says Helen Bancroft, Director of local marketing company Incognate.

Vishal suggests, ‘many people see Costa as a big company, but it is made up of franchisors like me who recognise the importance of a supportive and close knit community and want to play our part.’

The Happiness Lab is a 6-week course exploring and learning some of the tools and techniques that can lead to a happier life. It’s based on a series of fly-on-the-wall documentaries where those attending will watch as twelve people (on video) explore six different disciplines.

Themes include, focusing on gratitude and savouring, practicing acts of kindness, learning to forgive, investing in friends and family, looking after your body and soul and developing coping strategies.

The course starts on Tuesday 17th of October and runs every Tuesday for 6 weeks between 1pm-3pm at Costa Coffee in Thame.

You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
