After what seemed to be a truely dismal breakfast last week, the Thame Hub foody will have hoped for a dramatic improvement this week. One breakfast we’ve heard lots about is at Thame Snooker club, who serve every Saturday morning from roughly 11am…Here’s how it went:
“Not being a sporty person, I have only been to the Snooker Club once before, for a party last year. So to hear they did food was a pleasant surprise. I feel a bit deflated after such a poor breakfast last week so I really need something to motivate me again and find the best breakfast in Thame.
Looking at the menu in the snooker club (which by the way was ultra clean and tidy – much better than the coffee house’s crumbs all over the floor approach) the price seemed very reasonable, £6.50 for a full english in Thame (as we know) is pretty good. So far, this is the cheapest yet – and comes with everything you would expect it to, with a choice of fried bread or toast.
After a very short wait my breakfast arrived, clean cutlery, no oil all over the plate and what looked to be a very appetising breakfast – and that it was. Lovely bacon, cooked perfectly, mushrooms cooked to perfection with a generous sized portion. Beans were hot (hooray!) and fried bread which wasn’t burnt or cold! The only minor mark down i would give is that the egg wasn’t runny – and as a yolk enthusiast i had to mark it down slightly.
Really good value for money – can’t complain about how it was cooked, presented or the price. The only obvious thing to say, is these sausages clearly aren’t Newitts finest – but hey when you pay £6.50 these guys have got to make a profit too!
Vast improvement on last week (not hard) and despite The Thatch being top of the pile in terms of quality at the moment, it gives me something to consider – at 60% of the cost of the Thatch it’s cheaper.
It’s certainly not your traditional setting for a breakfast, and if you’re looking for a cafe vibe then you wont get that here but the staff are warm and friendly and i couldn’t fault the breakfast – it felt like a breakfast you’d make at home but without the stress of making it yourself – so overall a big thumbs up from me.”
