On 2 May 2012, RAF Halton was granted the Freedom of Entry into Thame. A Freedom of entry is the highest civic honour that can be bestowed on a military unit.
Many Thame residents will fondly remember Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall's visit to our town and the impressive spectacle of the troops parading past the Town Hall.
On 8 May 2016, RAF Halton will be exercising their 'Freedom to march through the town with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, bands playing and Colours flying'.
From 11am, the regiment will parade through the town to the High Street where the Mayor of Thame will have the honour of inspecting the troops. Dignitaries including the Chair's of South Oxfordshire District Council and Oxfordshire County Council and John Howell MP will be in attendance.
Thame Town Council has invited the people of Thame to join the celebration from 11am in the town centre. Please note that a road closure will be in force from 9am - 1pm along the High Street, Cornmarket & Butter Market and a rolling road closure on Southern Road. Thame Hub hopes to see you there, to view what is sure to be a great spectacle.
