The hot weather continued this past weekend, as the 1st XI welcomed Ickenham to a scorched Church Meadow. Ickenham opted to bowl. Evan Cowley (35) got Thame off to a solid start before 3 quick wickets. Ubaid Kiani (75) anchored the innings and Dinny Malan later hit a swift 46 to get Thame to 265 all out. Foa Fasanya (2-10) got an early breakthrough, but at 176-6 the game headed for a draw despite Dinny Malan (4-34) removing the set batter to give late hope. Taking 18 points, the 1s are 5th and go to leaders Datchet next.
The 2s were away at Buckingham 2 and were invited to bowl. Thame had the hosts 64-4, however two 100+ run partnerships followed to set up a big score. Jake Wilkinson (5-32) completed his 5for late on and Ian McStay took 2-49, before Buckingham declared on 301-9. In response, opener Harry Thomas (84*) and Jeremy Batty (82*) came together in trouble at 35-3, and safely steered Thame to 194-3, depriving Buckingham of points and taking 12 for Thame in the draw. The 2s are 7th and next host 3rd-placed Horspath 3.
At Lord Williams’ School, Thame 3rds hosted Frieth 2 and put them into bat. Aaron Watson (2-20) did early damage, before an 86-run 3rd wicket partnership provided the bulk of Frieth’s runs. Loe Fasanya (3-48) took 3 wickets in 3 overs and Sam Holmes added 2-18 in 165 all out. Thame also lost early wickets and at 89-6 were facing a tough task. Guy Holmes (55) stayed strong with Captain Rob Tomlin (25*), who again saw Thame to another 3 wicket victory! 7 unbeaten and up to 4th, the team go to relegation-threatened Risinghurst 2 next.
Thame 4th XI headed to Chesterton & Wendlebury 2 and were asked to bat. Nick Fuller (70) opened with Lewis Yeung (36) and put on 53 for the first wicket. Kishore Suresh added 27 and valuable lower order contributions took Thame to 188-7. Trevor Spindler (3-8) had the hosts struggling at 40-3, but runs trickled and wickets dried up and the innings ended a draw on 126-4. Thame took 14 points and slip to 2nd, replaced by Gully 2 who visit next week!
A busy weekend for Thame Women started with a hundred defeat at Church Meadow on Friday, versus Oxford. On Sunday, Stony Stratford were the visitors, who won the toss and batted. It was a tough day in the field as Ridgway’s 140* from 122 balls helped Stony Stratford post 313-3 – Shirley Emmanuel (1-44) returned Thame’s best figures. Helena Purushothaman (39) and Angeli Lotay (26) were going well, but from 132-4 Thame fell to 157 all out. 7th out of 8 with 3 games to go, the team break from league action next week with a hundred match against Steventon at Horspath on the Friday.
