Thame Players Celebrate Five Winners in NODA Regional Awards

24th July 2024

Thame Players have received five awards in the London Region Awards 2023/24 presented by the National Operatic and Drama Association (NODA) recently. NODA is the body representing, supporting and inspiring amateur theatre groups all over the UK.

The Thame Players’ award winners in the Oxfordshire District within NODA’s London Region were:

• Tony Long: The Sylvia Rawlings Lifetime Achievement Award

• Molly Rogers: The Louise English Trophy for a Person Under 30 Who Has Made an Outstanding Contribution to their Society

• Thame Players’ production of Tom Jones, directed by Colin Lee: The Pat Redhead Drama Award for Best Production of a Play or Drama

• Tom Moorwood, for his role as Blifil in Thame Players’ production of Tom Jones: The Eric Watsham Award for Best Cameo Performance in a Play or Musical

• Colin Lee, Doug Taylor and team, for the set design in Thame Players’ production of Barefoot in the Park: The Shinfield Players Scenic Design Award (in memory of Pat Barr)

The impressive award certificates were presented to the five winners at Thame Players’ Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 17th July - see picture attached.

Pam Armstrong, NODA London Councillor, said of the London Region award winners, “Warm congratulations to all our district winners. You have the prestigious distinction to be singled out as the best in your district and are the cream of what London Region has to offer. For those of you who have been nominated for an award by your own society, this demonstrates the high regard in which you are held and how treasured you are by your society.”

Mike Rochford, Chair of Thame Players, said, “Having submitted two candidates and been nominated by NODA representatives for three more NODA London Region awards, we are delighted that all five were winners. These accolades show how much talent there is within the Thame Players’ community and also demonstrate how hard we work to bring high-quality productions and outstanding amateur actors to our theatre. We continue to be proud of being the only dedicated entertainment venue for the people of Thame and surrounding villages.”
