In 2023, Thame-based Groves, a leading distributor of haberdashery, craft and sewing supplies, installed a 300kW solar PV system to their large eastern bypass warehouse with the aim of reducing their CO2 emissions as well their annual energy bills.
In the 15 months since the system has been generating energy, it has produced 290,000kWh of electricity and provided over 42% of Groves annual usage, higher than the design estimates, which means the capital payment is expected to meet the 5-6 year forecasted payback period.
Andrew Groves said, ‘making this investment in solar means we reduce our CO2 emissions by 126,000kg each year as well as generating 150,000kWh of electricity for our own use. We also feedback an excess of 117,000kWh to the grid’
Groves are keen to encourage local sustainable initiatives such as Renewable Thame, a Thame Green Living Project, that provides education and expertise to support local businesses and domestic customers understand how renewable energy can help reduce energy costs and carbon footprint.
