Chinnor deliver A Point a Minute Rugby in spell-binding defeat of Taunton Titans to stay Top of England’s National One Rugby.
Chinnor produced a sparkling performance of non-stop, running rugby to notch-up 80 points against a valiant and plucky Taunton. It was Titans who opened the scoring from an early penalty and closed it with an interception try in the last seconds of the match, but in between they faced Chinnor’s rock-solid defence and a relentless barrage of fast, attacking rugby producing 12 Chinnor tries, many of them stunning length-of-the pitch scores.
Under Director of Rugby Nick Easter (ex-England and Harlequins) Chinnor’s talented players have delivered the best defence and the best attack in National One to be the highest scoring side while conceding the least points. Chinnor show-cased those abilities on Saturday.
George Worboys enjoyed a superb individual performance with 3 tries and 10 conversions to end the day with a personal tally of 35 points.
Chinnor conceded an early 3 points after a series of penalties but struck back immediately when totemic Captain Willie Ryan crashed over after another superb break from scrum half Carter. Chinnor started to purr with some fantastic interplay and long-range attacks orchestrated by Bourton and Smith. A break from Smith found Worboys inside to open his account. Hughes then finished another long-range effort and, after Clementson and Hardwick had touched down from driving mauls, Chinnor went into halftime at 32-3.
The hosts then stormed into the second half with 2 quick-fire tries from Worboys and Feeney. Chinnor did not relinquish the pace and some more superb interplay led to tries from Carter, Smith and a lovely finish from William Glister on debut meant they were scoring at a point a minute. Worboys bagged his hat trick as he swerved through the defence and when Hughes scored in the corner Chinnor were rampant on 80 points.
Titans never gave up and in the 80th minute Wright intercepted and ran the length of the pitch to score a converted try taking Titans to 10.
