Optometrist, Ivan Cammack, set off on Sunday with a mission to fundraise for much needed resources and to support residents in their local community.
Ivan Cammack is the Optometrist and Director of three independent optical practices. The Chinnor namesake practice was established in 2000, with the team since forming strong ties with patients in and around the area.
On Sunday 1st October, Ivan Cammack commenced on a 20km journey along the Phoenix Trail from Thame to Princes Risborough, cycling on a tandem with his wife Sarah. Ivan was also joined by his daughter Amy, his grandson Morgan (aged 10), and many work colleagues to raise funds for the benefit of our oldest and greatest generation.
Forget Me Knot Cafe is an informal group that supports those who suffer with dementia, Alzheimer’s, mental health issues, old-age or isolation. Run by trained volunteers and staff and backed up by local specialists, the meetings allow attendees to relax in a supportive group environment and enjoy breaks from the pressures of everyday life.
Speaking on the decision to fundraise for this cause, Ivan added: “Many of us have someone close to us who struggles, and we recognise just how much they benefit from the company of people who suffer in a similar way.”
“I also think it’s just as important to recognise that carers who share similar experiences can gain so much by meeting up to offer support for each other in a relaxing environment, backed up by access to specialist support when needed.”
“The work that Chinnor Village Centre does is incredible and we’re so grateful to be able to give something back to them that will have such a significant impact on the people in our community.”
The fundraiser was also a family-friendly open invitation to people of all ages within the local area to get involved and cycle alongside or even part of the way and share their support, with around 20 cyclists joining the team on their mission throughout the day.
So far, the Ivan Cammack Optometrists team have surpassed their initial target of £2000 with their total currently just over £2,500 and counting.
The funds will go towards providing much needed resources for Chinnor Village Centre, allowing the team to continue supporting the health and wellbeing of the community alongside their friends at Ivan Cammack Optometrists.
