On the 4th of September 1939, just a day after Prime Minister Chamberlain announced on the BBC that Britain was at war with Germany, 200 Citizens Advice Bureaux opened their doors across the country, advising people on rations, national service, and evacuations. They've been advising people in need ever since.
Thanks to the efforts of former Town Mayor, Len Webb, the Thame Citizens Advice Bureau was set up in 1976 using an empty auctioneers office in the market where it operated until moving to the Town Hall for another 10 years.
When the service outgrew the Town Hall, Len Webb was also instrumental in the relocation to its present position in Market House.
He invited Princess Anne to open the new premises in February 1995. She was, and remains to this day, the patron of Citizens Advice.

Advice Service Manager, Tricia Hook said, 'Anyone who has supported Citizens Advice in any way since we have been open in Thame is very welcome to join us on Wednesday 25 September at 11am when the Mayor will be cutting the Anniversary cake.'
