It was a beautiful Saturday, and a drizzly Sunday for our teams this week. After last week’s win, Thame 1st XI hosted Chesham, who won the toss and batted. Chesham put on 205 for the first wicket, Rance scoring 114, before Skipper Hassam Mushtaq (2-62) helped bring Thame back into the game. The visitors posted 273-4. In reply, Thame reached 103-4 when last week’s hero Alex Browne hit 55 including 5 more sixes! Young Luke Hayes (33) led the tail with a small glimmer of hope of a win, but The Meadowmen were eventually all out 54 runs short. The 1s face Horspath away next week.
The 2nd XI travelled to Leighton Buzzard, and were asked to field. Kempster’s 144 set the hosts on the way to a big total. Robbie Jackson (2-53) led with the ball as late wickets fell, but Buzzard posted an impressive 331-5. Chasing, Harry Thomas (75) opened and shared a 3rd wicket partnership of 106 with Chris Jeffcock (75). Regular wickets then fell after, as Thame ended short on 285-7. The 2s look for their first win of the season versus Oxenford at home next week.
Thame 3s also faced Leighton Buzzard, their 2s at home, and chose to bat. Thame had lost early wickets when Skipper Jordan Lee-Paskin (35) came in to steady the ship, but after he departed regular wickets fell as Thame were all out for 141 in the 34th over. After a much needed early breakthrough, ‘Pistol’ Pete Higson took 2-45, but Buzzard went along at a fast rate and reached the target 4 down in the 28th over. The 3rd XI look to get their season going against Marsh Gibbon, away next week.
The depleted 4s took on Risinghurst 2 away, and after losing the toss, bowled. Youngster Max Shayler (4-25) and Trevor Spindler (3-25) opened the bowling to great effect, but Risinghurst’s lower middle-order fought back to reach 161 all out in the 40th over. Thame struggled with the bat – Captain Tim Dabbs (16) was the only batter to reach double figures, as the team fell to 56 all out. The 4th XI host Fringford at Lord Williams’ Upper School next week, looking for a first win of the season.
Thame Women looked to continue their unbeaten start to the Super 8s, as they hosted Beaconsfield for 2 matches in the light rain on Sunday. Emily Neighbour (3), Leanne Harris (2) and Harshani Malan (2) put in great bowling performances to limit the visitors to a net score of 251. Then Captain Sarah Sanderson (11) top scored, but late wickets meant a loss by 25 runs. In the second game, Malan added 2 more wickets to her growing collection, as Beaconsfield set 272. Cath Hawkes (15) then starred with the bat, to lead Thame to a win by 12 runs. Thame sit top of Group C, and travel to play 2 more Super 8 matches against Radlett and Abbots Langley next Sunday.
