With our Saturday sides in good form, the 1st XI started the action off this week away at Gerrards Cross and were put into bat. Alex Tervet (59) and Farid Butt (40) steadied the ship after an early loss, before Dinny Malan hit 61 from 45 alongside Shabz Meer (43) to get Thame to 273 all out. After a brisk start from the hosts, Captain Hassam Mushtaq, Alex Browne and Malan took 2 wickets each to put Thame in command 8 down with 194 on the board. Amazingly, from there a 9th wicket partnership was able to get the win for Gerrard’s Cross. Now 7th, the 1s host leaders Oxford next.
At Church Meadow, the 2nd XI were on a 3-game winning streak and led by stand-in skipper, James McStay, were put into bat against Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts. Rob Johnson opened with 25, but it was an innings to forget as Thame were skittled for 73. Jeremy Batty picked up 3-11 before the visitors reached the target by 7 wickets. Moving down to 5th, the team go to 7th Wolvercote next.
The 3rds travelled to Gaerse Dun (Garsington) and put the visitors into bat. The hosts reached 61 before Daniel Tilley (4-11) brought Thame back into it. Debutant Adhiraj Sharma (3-9) and Ian McStay (2-38) took out the tail to 151 all out. Quasim Zaman (43) and Chairman Tim Dabbs (39) had Thame cruising at 119-3, before 4 more wickets fell. Pete Tervet (20*) hit four 4s in a row to extinguish the nerves and take Thame to the win by 3 wickets! That’s 4 games unbeaten for the 3s, who stay 5th and host 7th Didcot 5 on Saturday.
Thame 4s hosted Bradenham 2 at Lord Williams’ School and were asked to bat. Young Lewis Yeung (35) led a strong start before Charlie Anderson (57*) anchored the innings. Will Littlewood hit 34* off 27 balls to take Thame up to 178-4. Trevor Spindler (5-21) took his 3rd straight 5for to have Bradenham struggling on 52-6. Shay Reading (3-12) then polished off the innings to give Thame a fifth straight win, by 85 runs. Flying high at the top, the 4s go to 4th Bledlow Ridge 3 next.
On Sunday at Church Meadow, Thame Women took on Falkland and were invited to bowl. 108 from Camplin set Falkland up for a big score. Harshi Wijerathna took 2-40, and Thame picked up 2 run outs, as Falkland posted 330-6. Megs Woodward smashed a memorable 123 from just 91 balls at the top of the order for Thame, hitting 22 4s! Wijerathna hit 39, but nobody else could get going as Thame ended 238 all out. Placed 6th, it’s 3rd Berhamsted next at home for Thame.
Also on Sunday, a youthful Saxons side featuring 3 U13 debutants were narrowly beaten at Warborough & Shillingford.
