In this season’s penultimate Saturday league matches, the rain came to sadly abandon 3 of the 4 games! Away at Horspath the 1st XI won the toss and batted, posting 279-8. Player of the match Alex Tervet (72) and Jonathon Jelfs (58) led the way, but only 2 overs were possible in the 2nd innings before the rain ended proceedings. The 6th-placed 1s host already relegated Bicester & North Oxford in the last game of the season, with 5th place an outside possibility.
A youthful 2nd XI hosted Bicester & North Oxford 2 at Church Meadow and chose to bowl. Thame were happy with the visitors at 83-5, before the 6th wicket partnership in particular propelled the innings t0 277-7. Jake Wilkinson returned the best figures of 3-41. The 2nd innings did not see a single balled bowled, and the game was abandoned. The 2s are 6th and can finish as high as 4th with a win away at relegated Tetsworth 2, if other results go their way.
Thame 3rds hosted Chearsley 2 at Lord Williams’ School, needing a win in the fight for survival. After choosing to bowl first, Thame were in the ascendancy as 2 wickets apiece from Pete Tervet and Jeremy Batty had Chearsley 31-5. The visitors rallied to 126 all out, with Daniel Tervet spinning 3-28. Thame were 33-3 in reply when the rain put a halt to the chase. In a nervy final day ahead, Thame sit 1 point above the relegation zone, and go to Wolverton 2, who are 3rd.
The 4th XI travelled to Wolvercote 4, and were invited to bat first. Tim Airstone (17) was the top scorer in another difficult innings, as Thame were all out for 74. Charlotte Harvey (3-41) got Thame off to a brilliant start, however the hosts were able to get home by 5 wickets. It’s sadly relegation for the 4th XI, who will finish the season at home to 4th Oxenford 3.
On Sunday, Thame Women hosted title-chasing Moreton at Church Meadow, in the final game of the league season. After being put into bat, Harshi Wijerathna opened with 50, and at 83-3 Thame were looking to build. Sadly a collapse followed, to 110 all out. A strong Moreton put on 62 for the first wicket. Thame showed fight, with Helena Purushothaman taking 2-29, but the visitors reached the target to win by 6 wickets. Thame finish safe in 6th place and will play in the Home Counties Premier Division again next year.
