Weekly Cricket Roundup – 2s & 4s Scrape Wins on Nail-Biting Saturday, Cowley Ton in Vain for 1s 23/24May

26th May 2026

On a heat wave bank holiday weekend, the 1st XI travelled to Oxford and elected to field. Dinny Malan (5-44) picked up a wicket in the first over on his way to a first five-for of the season, but a strong middle-order and late hitting got the hosts to 282-7. An imperious 103 from Evan Cowley, his first in the Home Counties, and 71 Ubaid Kiani put Thame in command at 211-1. The loss of 8 quick wickets ripped away momentum as Thame disappointingly finished 6 runs short. Looking for a first win, the 1s host bottom side Challow & Childrey next.

Thame 2s hosted Wolvercote and chose to bat. Thame were struggling at 60-6, and were mainly indebted to Devane Warner (48) and Muhammad Amin (37) to get to 193 all out. Amin then spun a memorable 5-30, with Jake Wilkinson taking 3-26, to have Wolvercote reeling at 95-9. An 87 run partnership put Thame on edge, but the final wicket came to give the win by just 11 runs! It’s a mid-table clash away at Bicester & North Oxford 2 next week.

The 3s headed to Didcot 5. After electing to bat, Thame posted a strong 250 – led by Guy Holmes (98), supported in the main by Sam Ward (33) while several others got starts. Pete Tervet (4-49) put Thame on top. Half centuries for both 7 and 8 for Didcot swung the game Didcot’s way, and they were able to reach the target with just 2 wickets remaining. Sitting mid-table, the 3s host 8th East Oxford 3 next.

At Lord Williams’ School, the 4th XI opted to bowl at home to Bledlow Ridge 3. Captain Ed Mather (3-23) and Loe Fasanya (3-32) did the damage, as the visitors were skittled for 151. Wickets fell at regular intervals, but Fasanya (36*) stayed strong at 6. Needing 6 to win with 2 wickets remaining from the final over, Thame scraped home with 1 wicket and 1 ball to spare! Unbeaten, the 4s go to 3rd Oxenford 4 next.

On Sunday, a first home game of the season for Thame Women saw Binfield visit and opt to bat. Harshi WijerathnaAmber Roy and Megs Woodward took 2 wickets apiece, but Binfield posted a competitive 209-8 from the 40 overs. Thame were 0-2 after the first over, and couldn’t get going from there. Eli Dey top-scored with 14 in 57 all out. Placed 4th, the team go to 5th Berkhamsted on Sunday.

You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
