It’s a change in format to win-lose-draw for our Saturday sides, as the league season reaches a third of the way through! The 1st XI travelled to Wokingham and were invited to bat. Ubaid Kiani opened with a patient 51, Lloyd Paternott (63) top scored and Alex Browne smashed 61, including 5 sixes. Valuable further contributions later on got Thame up to 306-7 from the 58 overs. Wokingham built steadily and, with a 3rd wicket partnership of 115, had one eye on pulling off a win before Player of the match Dinny Malan picked up a breakthrough runout. Malan then took 3-50, with Captain Hassam Mushtaq taking 3-89 to swing things Thame’s direction! But the overs ran out and the game ended in a draw on 259-8. Thame took a healthy 16 points and placed 7th, host bottom side Chesham on Saturday, after a T20 at Aston Rowant on Tuesday (17th).
Thame 2s hosted Wolvercote 2 at Church Meadow. After choosing to bat, the visitors would have been happy at 60-1. From there, Pete Tervet (3-32), Robin Sutcliffe (2-14) and Muhammed Amin‘s almost unplayable spell of 2-4 from 4.5 overs caused a huge collapse to just 88 all out. In the 2nd innings, Manil Subesinghe hit 47 at better than a ran-a-ball as Thame got home by 7 wickets in the 24th over. The huge win takes the 2nd XI up to 4th, and they go to 3rd-placed Oxford & Bletchingdon on Saturday, looking to close the gap.
The 3rds headed to Waddesdon 2, won the toss and bowled. It was looking good for Thame with the score at 82-6, but the hosts were able to rally to get up to 174-7 – Chris ‘Winkle’ Penny, Aaron Watson and Callum Lord took 2 wickets apiece. It was a chase to forget for Thame as it ended on 44 all out – Nick Humphries (14) gave the best effort at number 11. Sitting 7th, the 3s host 3rd-placed Aylesbury next,
At Lord Williams’ School, the 4th XI hosted Dinton 3, won the toss and bowled. Trevor Spindler took out the top 4 single-handedly, including a runout, on his way to a brilliant 5 wicket haul (5-34). Danny Thompson spun 3-32, as Thame were pleased to have Dinton all out for 95. Things went downhill from there. Meher Madhu Chilukiri took 8-11 to have Thame 29 all out. Still looking for a first win, the team go to leaders Leighton Buzzard next.
It was a week off for the Women’s XI. However, there was Women’s action on Sunday at Church Meadow as the ground played host to 2 resounding T20 wins for Oxfordshire Women, versus Cornwall! Our Women’s side return to league action on Sunday at home to Binfield.
