Vaccine update from The Rycote Practice

The Rycote Practice continues to offer the covid vaccine to patients with underlying health conditions (Cohort 6). This is an extremely large cohort so please be patient – we will get to you soon. Any patient over the age of 65 who has not been contacted by the practice or NHS England for their first dose is encouraged to contact the surgery or visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

We are running another vaccination clinic for patients at The Rycote Practice on the afternoon of Friday 5 March. Currently we have not been advised of any vaccine deliveries next week (commencing 8 March) but we are expecting a very large delivery of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines the week after (commencing 15 March). This means that we will be inviting patients who received their first dose between 29 December and 1 January to Morland House Surgery in Wheatley to receive their second dose as well as offering first doses at The Rycote Practice.

We are aware that there has been confusion about when patients will receive their second dose as some of the larger vaccination centres are offering an appointment for the second dose at the same time as the first dose. All vaccination centres have been advised to arrange for a second dose to be administered 11 weeks after the first – unfortunately the delivery schedule for general practice is not sufficiently clear to guarantee the date for the second dose at same time as the first.  Patients will be invited to return to the same centre that administered their first dose and will receive the same brand vaccine that they received the first time.

Recent studies have shown that the first dose of the Pfizer-Biontech and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine reduce the risk of hospitalisation from Covid-19 by 80%. Please do however continue to wear a mask, practice good hand hygiene and observe social distancing until you have had your second dose and infection rates have fallen further. Stay safe. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.
