The Town Council met on Tuesday 25 August at 6.30pm in the Upper Chamber at Thame Town Hall. Residents were welcomed to attend. The full agenda and reports were made available on the Council's website.
The meeting began with a resident speaking regarding Planning Application P25/S3631/O.
Representatives from the Lea Park Residents Association addressed the Council, seeking support for the speed limit reduction of Tythrop Way in the Oxfordshire County Council Speed Limit Review. Members supported reducing the speed limit to:
- 30mph on Tythrop Way (A4129)
- 40mph on the A418 between the County boundary with Buckinghamshire (near Scotsgrove) and the Thame roundabout
- 50mph on the A4129 between the County boundary with Buckinghamshire (near Kingsey) and Thame
Members agreed with the remaining responses in line with the Planning Committee's recommendations.
Planning Application P25/S3631/O for amended plans at Land to the east of Howland Road (B4012) and south of Kingsey Road was considered and Members unanimously agreed to object to the planning application.
The Council approved:
- The appointment of a company to undertake the replacement of the Council's website.
- Updated Committee membership and revised Standing Orders.
- Officers seeking grant funding to support training and resources for hedge laying.
Members received reports from representatives on external organisations and a technical summary of the Mayor of Thame's Charity Trust for the 2025/26 year.
Members also received an update on the successful grant award for Project Link and were reminded of the Public Meeting on Thame’s Community & Youth Centre, taking place on 27 August 2026 at 6.30pm in the Upper Chamber. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to hear the latest project updates, ask questions, and learn more about the progress being made towards delivering this important community facility.
Council considered a motion supporting the Smart Phone Free Childhood initiative, recognising growing concerns about the impact of smartphones and social media on children's wellbeing, mental health and education. Members resolved to support the Motion noting that Thame Smart Phone Free Childhood Group are working with schools, parents and the wider community to promote healthy childhood development and digital wellbeing.
