‘You said we did’/ Priorities
You Said: Inconsiderate parking of vehicles around Queens Road and Horton Avenue in Thame.
We Did: We have hand delivered a large number of letters to local residents requesting that when parking vehicles, the driver considers other road users, pedestrians and emergency response vehicles. Being mindful to keep junctions clear, not obstructing private driveways and leaving sufficient room for manoeuvring of vehicles.
Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
The Thame & Wheatley NHPT have applied to Oxford Magistrates Court for a partial closure order on a property on Roman Road, Wheatley. Thames Valley Police along with South Oxfordshire Housing Authority (SOHA) presented evidence of anti-social behaviour to the court. The order was granted on 27th March 2017 and remains in place for 3 months. The order prohibits all people other than the resident and nominated / named people to enter the address.
Offenders brought to justice
On 10/03 a burglary dwelling was report to have taken place on Roundhead Drive, Thame. Entry was gained by forcing the back door, several items were stolen including the victim’s car. An offender was arrested out of the area, interviewed and has been charged with burglary dwelling, taking a vehicle without consent and no insurance. The offender was released on bail with conditions & appeared at Oxford Magistrates Court on 30/03 for a first hearing.
Crime prevention advice
There has been a slight increase in offences being committed on the border of Oxford area, specifically around Sandford-on-Thames, Littlemore and Heyford Hill. These offences range from house burglary offences, theft from motor vehicles to general reports of thefts. Although we have not received a high number of reports of burglary offences, residents are reminded to remain vigilant, ensuring windows and doors are secured, even when you are at home. Do not think your property is safe purely because you are asleep in the house – remember to secure your windows and doors at night too! What the neighbourhood team have been doing
PS Hoskin & PCSO Jackson attended the Oxfordshire Partnerships annual meeting where we met a number of community volunteers and agencies who support the vulnerable residents within the community. This was an ideal time to network and promote the work of Thames Valley Police and the neighbourhood teams. We discussed how we support the elderly and vulnerable members of the community carrying out crime prevention work.
Thame SHOPWATCH
On Wednesday 5th April 2017 a new initiative will go live to tackle offending in the Thame community. The SHOPWATCH scheme will provide the retail community with greater abilities to deal with persons committing crime in the town. A person found committing an offence, such as shoplifting or anti-social behaviour (ASB) will be banned from all shops displaying the Exclusion Zone sticker for a minimum for six months. The maximum ban time will be unlimited. Shops will be aware of who is banned through sharing of information by all shops and the Police.
These same shops will also have a direct radio link to each other and also the Police. This will provide faster communications between all premises involved and enable an intelligence and information sharing capability throughout Thame. A radio will be carried by a member of the Thame Neighbourhood team during shops opening hours to ensure regular contact is made and help a faster response in the event of a crime occurring. Chinnor Crime Prevention Event (9th April, 5pm – 7.30pm)
The NH team will be in Chinnor on the evening of Wednesday 19th April between 5pm-7.30pm hours distributing crime prevention advice and signing people up to the TV Alerts. More information will be sent out via our twitter page & through the local parish council nearer the time!
Community Café! (Wednesday 26th April, 6pm – 8pm)
Thame & Wheatley NHPT would like to invite all members of the community to a new engagement event we are holding on Wednesday 26th April 2017. The “Community Café” is a fresh approach to community engagement and new way for the police and community to work together. It is an opportunity to meet the local neighbourhood policing team for Thame and Wheatley. We want to work with the local community to explore how we can together make our town and surrounding villages a safer place. The event will be an opportunity for you, the community to help us come up with ideas on how to tackle low level incidents and areas of concern for the local residents. The Community Café is open to everyone from all the surrounding villages. All members of the community are invited to join us, local businesses, residents, youths, organisations and volunteers.
