Please see the below update from Thame Town Council:
| Earlier this year, Thame submitted its bid to become the UK’s first Town of Culture. The bid was shaped by workshops with the community and written by the Town Council and the community. An extract from our bid which highlights Thame’s community spirit is included below: “This bid has been shaped through engagement with residents, community groups, and local organisations… The Town of Culture programme will celebrate Thame’s heritage, creativity, and community spirit, creating new opportunities for residents and visitors to participate in cultural life. It will bring together existing events with new community-led activity to strengthen identity and raise Thame’s profile.” Last week, the Government announced the Town of Culture 2028 shortlist made up of just 15 towns from almost 400 entries. Unfortunately, Thame didn’t make the list. Whilst we’re disappointed, we remain proud of our amazing town and will use the data we collected to help form our Strategy for Thame (more information coming soon). We’d like to thank those within our community who helped create Thame’s bid for their time and enthusiasm, and we wish the shortlisted towns the best of luck.
