Chinnor RFC are delighted to have captured prolific try machine Phil Chesters whilst retaining the services of key man Kieran Goss.
29 year old Phil Chesters made his Ealing Trailfinders debut in 2009 when in National 2 and has played a major part in the clubs meteoric rise to the Championship Playoffs this season. Playing over 150 games and scoring over 220 tries, Phil is an out and out finisher. He currently holds the record for most tries scored in one season at National 2 and National 1; a massive 70 tries in National 2, a record that will never be broken, and 42 in National 1. Only this season did Phil score an impressive brace at the Majeski Stadium against eventual league winners London Irish.
Matt Williams commented, "Phil's record speaks for itself. He is deadly in space, rapid, and knows how to finish. He is one of the first players I targeted several months ago when Ealing announced he was moving on. Every team craves a winger that knows how to score and can change a game on its head. Just look at OE's this season and the amount of games they struggled yet Dom Lespierre flipped on a thimble. I'm genuinely excited Phil chose us. He had many opportunities across all leagues but I think the fact we have several of his former team mates was a key swaying factor."
Phil added, "I'm really looking forward to joining up with Chinnor. Matt has some exciting ideas and is very ambitious which is really positive and something that attracted me to the club. I still believe at 29 I have a lot of rugby in me and hope I can help bring success to the club."
Phil has also represented the Barbarians and England Counties.
With Player of the Season Kieran Goss and Richmond Loanee powerhouse Charles Broughton both committing their future to the club, as well as last season's wingers Luke Hibberd and former Oxford University captain Henry Lamont, the back three has strength, speed and depth. But it's former try machine Oscar Heath that Matt Williams singles out."People are quick to forget that Oscar Heath was the National 2 Dream team winger a year ago and sadly missed all of last season through injury. Having Oscar back is like a new signing and I can't wait to see him back in training. We have a phenomenal back three this season and Kieran Goss is the best broken field runner of the ball in the league. As I keep saying strength in depth is what win's leagues and we certainly have that within our backline this season."
