‘You said we did’/ Priorities
Rural crime is a priority for the Thame Neighbourhood Policing Team (NHPT) especially around the farms in the Watlington area. The neighbourhood team have been conducting high visibility patrols and also setting up the mobile ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera to deter persons entering the area to commit crime. We shall be continuing our patrols and you may see us driving around the farms in our 4x4 vehicle. If you see us, come say hello.
Dangerous parking on Pettiwell in Garsington has caused issues for many years now. Working with Oxfordshire Highways and the local parish council, double yellow lines were installed along this road to prevent dangerous parking. Thame NHPT will be issuing fixed penalty notices for any vehicles parking along this road. In June, eight fixed penalty notices were issued to vehicles parking here.
Anti-social behaviour (ASB)
Anti-social behaviour in Thame is still a high priority for the neighbourhood team. We have been, and will continue to conduct high-visibility patrols through the town, and in doing so have deterred ongoing problems. Drivers have been given section 59 warnings for using their vehicles in an anti-social manner and we have also issued Acceptable Behaviour Contracts to offenders to prevent further offences.
The Thame Shop Watch initiative has helped to bring down ASB reports in the high street. People who cause ASB within shops are banned from all the shops in the scheme for 12 months. The Police and the shops hold regular meetings to discuss any problems that occur such as shoplifting and ASB. It is during these meetings that issues are discussed and it is decided whether or not people are banned.
Chinnor – swimming in the quarry
With the recent warm weather, Thame NHPT have seen a rise in people swimming the old quarry in Chinnor. We would like to remind everyone that the location is very dangerous. The water is deep with hidden dangers that could cause injury or death. The location is privately owned so you could be found trespassing should you enter to swim.
What the neighbourhood team have been doing
Thame NHPT have been visiting Lord Williams School in Thame to give a talk about staying safe online and consent. This was given to the Year 9 students during their Ace Week.
The team also attended Barley Hill School to give a talk to pupils and parents about staying safe online and how to watch for scams or people trying gain information through social media.
Emergency Services Day
Thame NHPT in conjunction with Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue and South Central Ambulance service are holding an Emergency Services Day. Come and see how the 999 services operate and try our kit on! There will also be a helicopter from the RAF and the army will be coming down with some kit too.
The event is being held on SOUTHERN ROAD, recreation ground between 10am – 4pm on Sunday 13th August 2017.
