Thame’s September Fair – Opens Today!

18th September 2025

This year, the Town Council is encouraging residents to plan their trips into and around Thame during the Fair due to the ongoing road closure on Wellington Street, which is likely to cause disruption.

When is the fair open?
Thursday 18 September, from mid/late afternoon
Friday 19 September at 3pm
Saturday 20 September at midday

What roads will be closed?
As usual, the town centre will be closed to vehicles from 4pm on Wednesday 17 September until midday on Sunday 21 September.

The following roads will be closed during this time: High Street (from Bell Lane roundabout to North Street roundabout), Cornmarket, Buttermarket and Upper High Street.

Due to the subsidence on Wellington Street, this road will regrettably remain closed during the Fair. The Town Council continues to work closely with Highways and Thames Water to minimise the impact of this and ensure clear diversions, but disruption is expected so please plan ahead.

The diversion therefore for all traffic will be via the Tythrop Way bypass (A4129) / Kingsey Road / East Street, or via Bell Lane / Lower High Street / Oxford Road.

Where can I park?
The car parks at Southern Road (behind the former Co-Op) and Cattle Market (North Street) will remain open as usual.

Additional parking will be available at Southern Road Recreation Ground, a short walk from the Town Centre.

Disabled parking will be on North Street.

Vehicle Access Permit
If you are a resident or business with off-street parking within the Fair road closure, you can apply for a vehicle access permit by contacting the Town Hall with your address and vehicle registration(s).

Bus Stops
All bus stops on the following roads will be closed:
Upper High Street, High Street and North Street.
All buses will be on diversion, please note the following closest town centre bus stops and bus route information:
X20 (to Oxford) – The Thatch (Lower High Street) or Cricket Club (Aylesbury Road)
400 (to Oxford) – The Thatch (Lower High Street)
X20 (to Aylesbury) – Thame Museum (Lower High Street)
121 (Haddenham / Thame circular) – The bus will miss all stops on East Street, Upper High Street, High Street and North Street.
40 (to High Wycombe) – The bus will miss all stops Upper High Street and High Street.

Taxis
The taxi rank will relocate to North Street during the Fair.

Toilets
Public toilets will be available at Cattle Market (North Street). Due to the ongoing closure of the Market House toilets for refurbishment, the Town Council has made provision for additional temporary public toilets during the Fair, which will be located near the Memorial Gardens.

Staying Safe
During the Fair, make sure to keep your belongings safe and always check how much you are being charged before paying by card. The Information Centre is the place to go for any lost property, to report a lost child or for any general enquiries.

A mobile ambulance will be located by Prezzo, Buttermarket/North Street. Defibrillators are located within the Town Centre.

For more information visit the Town Council’s dedicated September Fair webpage. The Town Council thanks residents, visitors and businesses for their co-operation in ensuring the September Fair is safe and enjoyable for all.
