Thame’s Senior Citizens Christmas Tea Party is back in 2021

After a break in 2020, the popular senior Citizens’ Christmas Tea Party returns on Wednesday the 8th December 2021. The party, for 80 guests, will be held at the Thame Football Club, and is organised by members of Thame Town Council, Thame & District Rotary Club and Thame Inner Wheel, with support from other volunteer groups. Food for the party will be prepared off site by caterer Jude Brown.

Sandy Davison, co-organiser representing Thame and District Rotary said: “John Hamden School choir will perform at the party, seasonal music will be provided by Ian English, and bingo games organised by Bob Duff. OX9er John Wilkins will act as Father Christmas, chatting to guests and handing out bags of chocolates.”

Guests from Meadowcroft Nursing Home will not be attending this year and so Christmas table centrepieces will be delivered to the Home.

Over a dozen volunteers from the organisations involved will be transporting guests from their homes to the Thame Football Club to attend the party.

Thame Town Councillor Linda Emery, President of Thame Inner Wheel and Rotary member concluded: “If it wasn’t for faithful supporters like Thame Town Council, South Oxfordshire County Council, Rotary Club of Thame, Inner Wheel Club of Thame and Freemasons of St Mary’s Lodge, we wouldn’t exist. So, thank you all for supplying the funds that we need to make a difference in the lives of older adults who enjoy this annual event.”

During the time of the pandemic, Rotary Club of Thame & District and Phoenix Community Club members have continued supporting the local community, have been meeting safely online and have been welcoming 10 new members since March 2020. The clubs’ doors are largely open to welcome new volunteer members.
