Thame's Montesson Bike Ride celebrates 25 years of twinning

10th September 2026

On Wednesday 16th September, Thame residents will be taking on the annual cycle to Montesson, our twinning town in France! This year is a particularly special ride as both towns celebrate the Silver Jubilee, 25 years of twinning!

The ‘Magnificent Seven’, Thame Mayor Andy Gilbert, Thame Deputy Mayor, Andy Wainwright, Stuart, Tim, David, Oli and Paul will be cycling from Thame to Montesson in just three days, setting off at 7:30am on Wednesday 16th September. If you can, do come into town, outside Gail’s to wish them a Bon Voyage!

On the first day, Thame Deputy Mayor, Andy Wainwright, Stuart and Tim will cycle 110 miles to Newhaven, over the Chilterns, North and South Downs. For the last two days the 'Magnificent Seven' will then rejoin to ride along the beautiful Avenue Verte to meet up with Montesson cyclists for the final stretch!

As well as celebrating this 25 year milestone, they will also be raising money for the Mayor's Charities, Thame's Community and Youth Centre and Thame Senior Friendship Centre. Any donation you can make to show your support would be much appreciated.  Good luck to our ‘Magnificent Seven!’

You are warmly invited to attend Death Cafe in Thame. at 7:30pm in room 1 of the Barns Centre, and held on the third Thursday of each month thereafter A Death Cafe is an informal gathering where people can discuss death over tea and cake. We’re aiming to normalise the topic of death, raise acceptance, and help people make the most of their lives by breaking the taboo around mortality. It is not a grief support group or counselling session. These sessions have no agenda, objectives, or themes, allowing for organic, group-directed conversations about anything related to death, from end-of-life planning to fears and feelings, fostering open sharing in a respectful, confidential space. Death Cafe is run on a not-for-profit basis but if you are able to make…
