Thame’s Best Takeaway – Chippy – Round 6 – The Chippy

Next up in Thame Hub’s review of Thame’s Best Takeaway is The Chippy.

Smarts Fish & Chips had an excellent review last week so it was up to The Chippy to see if they could take the crown of Thame’s best chip shop.

To keep the review fair  a medium cod and chips would again be ordered at Saturday night prime time. The review will be based upon not only wha has the best quality, taste and portion size, but also what is best value for money.

“A bank holiday weekend dinner from The Chippy! What more could you want? (Well maybe a bit more sun!) I decided to take a short stroll into town as at least it wasn’t raining!

The queue for the chippy was out the door when I entered, which I could only assume to be a good sign. The Chippy staff soon dispersed this quickly though, and I was soon served. I placed my order and it came to £5.60, 60p more expensive than Smarts. Although much like Smarts I was out the door within 2 minutes of my order being placed. Very quick service!

I emptied the cod and chips onto my plate and I couldn’t believe the portion size of the chips, it could have fed a family of four. The cod was also a very large medium! So it seems you are paying 60p extra for your meal compared to Smarts but you are certainly getting value for money. I was intrigued how many people a large chips might feed, perhaps i’ll have to invite the in-laws next time!

The cod and chips were certainly lacking a bit of colour compared to Smarts, but it certainly didn’t affect the taste. The cod was once again deep fried and wasn’t greasy and there was a decent proportion of cod to batter. With the cod being crispy and delicious.

The chips were just a tad too salty in my opinion and the vinegar about right.

So to summarise if you’re looking for a good portion size for your money then you should definitely try The Chippy, but the actual food was slightly lacking the appetising colour that a cod and chips should have. However it certainly didn’t affect the flavour”

Stay tuned for our article later in the week, to find out which of Thame’s chip shops has joined Mings in the winners category.
