It was raining goals at the ASM Stadium this afternoon as a Dan West hat-trick helped the Red Kites to an 8-0 demolition of visitors Leighton Town.
Despite this being the third game in five days the players were looking sharp and it only took 7 minutes before we took the lead when a driven corner was met on the volley by West to give us the lead.
It was 2-0 after 13 minutes when Greg Hackett burst down the right and his low cross was turned into his own net by a Leighton defender.
With the players full of confidence it didn't take long before another goal came and on 19 minutes Ryan Blake duly obliged. Matt Peake-Pinjnan played a lovely ball over the top of the Leighton full-back and Lynton Goss drove at goal before poking it towards goal. The ball flicked up onto the bar but dropped for Blake to prod home from close range.
Five minutes later and it was 4-0. A free-kick on our left was delivered by Goss and there was West to head home and get his second.Thame were now running riot and only moments after getting his second Dan West grabbed his hat-trick when he curled in a sumptuous free-kick from 20 yards out.
Then, almost from the re-start, Goss was once again charging into the box from his left-wing position and his driven cross-cum-shot across goal was deflected into the 'net by the visiting keeper. Goss celebrated but it's certainly one for the dubious goals panel...
Half-Time: Thame Utd 6 - 0 Leighton Town.
The second half began in much the same way as the first because it only took a few minutes before Ryan Blake was making it 7-0. Matt Peake-Pijnen picked the ball up just inside the visitor's half and played a nice ball into Blake who got it out of his feet before rifling into the far corner.
Then came wholesale changes with 5 or 6 players coming on for important game time.Once the newly introduced players had settled into the game chances continued to come for the Red Kites but it wasn't until the last kick that another goal would finally arrive, via Harry Scott.
The winger picked the ball up on the Thame left, drove at the visitor's box, skipped past two challenges, and fired the ball into the bottom corner. Amidst the celebrations, the referee blew his whistle to see Thame run out 8-0 victors.
Next up the team face a young Oxford United side on Tuesday night at the ASM Stadium.
Final Score: Thame Utd 8 - 0 Leighton Town (West 3, Blake 2, Scott, OG (2).
