United secured their first double of the season, and their fourth successive league win, in beating Chalfont St Peter 4-1 on Saturday.
With James McGowan unavailable due to work commitments, the only change to the side that had beaten Kempston Rovers 4-0 the previous Tuesday saw Jamie Essex come in at Centre Back.
The visitors started on the front foot and almost took the lead on 3 minutes when Craig Hill in the Thame goal did well to get down low to his left and push a shot wide of the post. United then went straight on the attack and a Lynton Goss corner found the head of Ellis Hercules but Dan West was unable to connect as the ball drifted wide. There then followed a period of little goalmouth action before United took the lead on 30 minutes. Harry Mepham did well to secure possession on the wide left, playing the ball back to David Lynn whose first time cross towards the far post was met by West, who powerfully headed wide of Dennison.
The second goal arrived only four minutes later. Lynton Goss swung over a corner that found its way to the far post where Ellis Hercules controlled the ball before driving over Dennison and in to the far corner. United were in control at this stage and two became three shortly before the break when the visitors failed to clear and the ball fell to Adam Morris twenty five yards from goal, and he arrowed a drive in to the top corner giving Dennison no chance.
With a three-goal lead at the break, United fully expected the visitors to apply the pressure in the second half. That they duly did but despite their possession, Hill was rarely threatened, with Thame content to play on the break. However, Chalfont did find themselves back in the game with 15 minutes to play when the ball found its way through to Victor Osobu 10 yards from goal, and he finished well, giving Hill no chance.
Whilst Chalfont continued to press, they were unable to create any meaningful opportunities and it was United who put the result beyond doubt with a fourth goal in the 88th minute. A neat turn from Goss ten yards inside the Chalfont half saw him play a defence-splitting pass through to West who bore down on goal before confidently sliding the ball wide of Dennison for his sixteenth league of the season.
The win pushed United to ninth in the table, with a tough looking run of fixtures ahead, starting on Boxing Day with a 1:00pm kick off at second place AFC Dunstable.
