Full Council Statement
Lidl, Planning Application at 47 Aylesbury Road
Lidl attended the Full Council meeting to provide an update on its planning application for a new store at 47 Aylesbury Road. During the participation, Lidl outlined several outstanding mandatory technical reports and further information which has been requested by various consultees as part of the planning application process. They explained that this level of follow‑up, the request to provide further supporting evidence, and reports is normal and expected for a major planning application.
Lidl also reported exceptionally strong engagement in its public consultation, receiving 2,754 responses, which they described as an unprecedented level of support.
As always, the Town Council’s role is to act in the best interests of the community. To do this effectively, the Town Council need to remain as a consultee to be able to review the next round of amendments, design changes, and technical updates. These updates will include important information on flood risk, ecology and highways issues as well as the potential impact on Thame’s Town Centre. Lidl intends to submit further information, as required by various consultees.
Thame Town Council has resolved to support the proposal in principle, provided that all outstanding matters are satisfactorily addressed by the applicant and assessed by the District Council.
The District Council is the body responsible for granting or refusing planning permission and it will be their role to ensure the outstanding matters are adequately addressed.
