Thame Players have recently received a grant from Thame Town Council, as part of the Council’s annual awards scheme that supports initiatives which develop skills, improve health, revitalise the local environment and enable people to become more active citizens.
The grant has funded a carbon and energy assessment of the Players Theatre, which was undertaken through the Energy Solutions Oxfordshire service of the Low Carbon Hub. The Players Theatre, Thame’s only dedicated theatre and cinema venue, is over 100 years old and requires ongoing improvements, aimed at maximising the efficiency of its operation and reducing energy usage.
The Energy Solutions Survey was designed to help improve the energy efficiency of the theatre and its sustainability. It included an analysis of energy consumption data, a review of the theatre’s equipment, controls and settings, advice on energy-saving measures and low-carbon technologies that would be practical to install at the theatre, and a report detailing the energy, cost and carbon savings of individual measures proposed.
Steve Lambell, who oversaw the project for Thame Players, said, “We were delighted to receive funding from Thame Town Council towards the cost of this survey. In line with Thame's Green Living Plan, we are keen to implement environmentally friendly projects, from energy-efficient air conditioning and LED lighting to solar panels. The Energy Solutions Survey will guide us in planning and implementing improvements over the next few years, to ensure the theatre is sustainable for future generations.”
Alison Grunewald, who leads the Energy Solutions Oxfordshire team and is Business Relationships Manager at the Low Carbon Hub, said, “We want to make it simple for every organisation in Oxfordshire to stop wasting energy and respond to climate change. It is very good to know that the Players Theatre in Thame is pursuing similar goals and is one of many local businesses making energy improvements, decarbonising their building and accelerating the clean energy transition."
