28th October 2026
Thame’s Neighbourhood Policing Team has provided an update on its efforts to tackle retail crime, theft from vehicles and anti-social behaviour across the town, with progress reported in several key areas.
The Thame, Watlington and Chinnor Neighbourhood Policing Team has outlined the latest action taken against its policing priorities for October 2026, including charges against suspected shoplifters, a reduction in vehicle-related thefts and ongoing investigations into anti-social behaviour involving young people.
Retail Crime and Shoplifting
Police say they have made significant progress in tackling retail crime in Thame town centre, building stronger relationships with management teams at many of the town's major retail outlets.
Several local offenders have also been charged with shoplifting offences as part of efforts to reduce thefts from businesses.
The team continues to work towards the relaunch of Shopwatch, a scheme aimed at improving communication and cooperation between local retailers to help prevent crime. However, the relaunch has been delayed due to ongoing technical work.
Theft from Motor Vehicles
The Neighbourhood Policing Team has reported a significant reduction in thefts from motor vehicles across the area, which it attributes to proactive policing.
An investigation into offences at Junction 8 of the M40 remains ongoing, with a suspect currently under investigation by the Priority Crime Team.
Officers are maintaining close contact with staff and CCTV operators at the location to help identify and respond quickly to any further incidents.
Anti-Social Behaviour in Thame Town Centre
Police are also taking action following reports of anti-social behaviour involving a group of young people in Thame.
Officers have been gathering evidence and compiling details of alleged offences, with plans to interview suspects in the near future.
The team says its targeted hotspot patrols continue to focus on areas most affected by anti-social behaviour, including:
- Thame Town Centre
- Elms Park
- Southern Road Recreation Ground
These patrols form part of ongoing efforts to reduce incidents and provide reassurance to residents and businesses.
Continued Focus on Local Policing Priorities
The three policing priorities were issued on 1 October 2026, with the latest actions recorded on 18 October.
The Thame, Watlington and Chinnor Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to focus on tackling local crime, supporting businesses and addressing concerns raised by the community.
