Thame Hockey Fest 2016 great success with over 60 new members signing up

Just weeks after the GB women won gold in the Olympics, Thame Hockey Club held Thame Hockey Fest on Saturday 10 September to kick off the new season.

Despite the bad weather, over 100 people went along to Hockey Fest, which was backed by England Hockey and aimed at promoting the sport.

Thame Hockey Fest saw the club open its doors to new and current players across the region, all with the aim to do one thing - celebrating the social and friendly aspect of playing hockey. With the club seeing a range of generations taking part, it really was a family affair and more than 60 new members joined the club that day.

A special appearance was made by gold medallist Hollie Webb and GB Coach Danny Kerry, who answered questions and signed many hockey balls and sticks. Thame Mayor Linda Emery, also paying a visit, took the chance to congratulate our hockey heroes and give out a supportive message to the club.

Anyone else inspired by the Olympics is welcome to go to the club and try out the sport which members say provides health and development opportunities, along with lasting friendships.

Training takes place between 20:00 and 22:00 on Tuesdays for men, 20:00 and 22:00 on Wednesdays for women, 09:00 - 10:00 for Under 8s and 10s and 10:00 - 11:00 for Under 12s and 14s on Saturdays.

Those interested can email [email protected] or check the website for more information.
