Yesterday was some day in Thame. Described as 'Armageddon' by someone on our Facebook page! Thame was hit by a rain storm and it certainly caused a few problems throughout the town. Electrics were down in numerous shops, some were forced to close including Sainsburys and Boots, who were without power.
The water didn't stop there, causing a roof to fall through at the Travelodge offices and consequently a fire, putting our local emergency services to the test once again just a few days after a house fire in the town centre.
Several roads were closed, including East Street and Aylesbury Road - causing a huge traffic backlog around the main roundabouts in Thame. Home owners were in the streets sweeping the water away from their front porches whilst fire engines attempted to pump the roads clear of the flowing water.
One homeowner on East Street said:
"I've never seen our road flood quite as quickly as this, and the water get so high up. I was beginning to think the ground floor of my house would flood, thankfully the rain didn't continue at the rate it was".
It highlights once again what fantastic emergency services we have, as they dealt promptly with all the issues faced on what was a bizarre day in Thame!
