The Thame, Watlington and Chinnor Neighbourhood Policing Team has outlined the latest actions taken to tackle key community priorities, including retail crime, drug activity and anti-social behaviour across Thame. The updates were issued on 9 October 2025 and actioned on 11 November 2025.
Crackdown on Retail Crime in Thame Town Centre
Retail crime remains a priority for officers, who continue to support both Thame Town Council and the district council with the rollout of the Shopwatch Radio scheme. The initiative is designed to strengthen communication between retailers and police to quickly identify and deter offenders.
Police confirmed that one young person has recently been interviewed in connection with several public order and theft offences committed in the town. The case has now been passed to the Youth Justice Unit, with officers hopeful of a “positive outcome” due to what they describe as a strong body of evidence.
A designated Town Centre hotspot, monitored at times when shoplifting is most prevalent, is helping officers focus patrols more effectively. The team will also take part in Safer Business Action Week from 10–16 November, providing crime-prevention advice to local businesses while targeting known prolific offenders.
Drug Activity Targeted in Elms Park
Drug dealing and drug use in Elms Park continue to be a concern for residents and remain a policing priority. Officers say they will be conducting increased hotspot patrols in both Elms Park and the Town Centre over the coming months to disrupt drug-related activity.
The team reported carrying out multiple drug-related stop searches in recent months and pledged to continue tackling offenders robustly. Police will also be meeting with County Council youth outreach workers to ensure vulnerable young people in the area receive appropriate support.
Anti-Social Behaviour Addressed Across Thame
The neighbourhood team highlighted a largely trouble-free Thame Town Fair, crediting a visible police presence for helping to prevent major incidents of anti-social behaviour.
Officers will be working with Thame Town Council to strengthen enforcement of the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), which prohibits alcohol consumption in defined areas of the town centre.
Police have also been supporting the Remembrance Day parade and continue to collaborate with local partners to address ongoing anti-social behaviour issues in the Pearce Way area.
Looking ahead, planning is already underway for December’s Night Time Economy Operation, aimed at keeping the town centre safe during the busy festive period.
