If you have a smart phone, have been watching the news or are on any form of social media then chances are you are aware of the Pokemon GO craze that is sweeping the UK. Pokemon Go has been described as travelling between the real world and the virtual world.
If you see groups of children (or adults!!) glued to their smart phones whilst walking down the street then there is a good chance they will be trying to catch Pokemon.
The new release of the game lets users catch Pokemon in real life. Niantic a Google start up that became independent in 2015 has created Pokemon GO with Nintendo. As you move around the smart phone will vibrate to let you know if you’re near a Pokemon, once you’ve encountered one you take aim on your smartphone’s touch screen and throw a Poke ball to catch it. The game is only available on Android at the moment as the UK iOS release date has been pushed back due to server problems.
The game also uses public places such as parks or churches as Pokemon “Gyms” where players can fight Pokemon and battle to take control of that specific gym, so if you see large groups of people congregating round specific buildings, then chances are they are playing Pokemon GO.
As far as we are aware the “Gyms” that we have been made aware of are at:
- Thame United’s ASM stadium
- Thame Town Hall
- St Mary’s Church
- CPM
The game has already caused outrage across the pond where Pokemon GO fans were slammed for playing the game in Washington DC’s Holocaust Museum.
