CHINNOR RFC Thame is delighted to announce that both Percy Hunt and Alex Cornish have signed for our Senior Squad.
The duo, who both played age grade rugby at Kingsey Road, will be involved in our fixtures with Rams next month and we look forward to seeing them compete for places in our First XV in the 2021/22 National League 1 season.
Hunt first started playing at Chinnor when he was six-years-old before leaving the Club at 13 due to school commitments at Bloxham.
However, the 21-year-old centre, who has made an impressive recovery from three shoulder surgeries between 2016-2020, returned last summer and has since been training with the Senior Squad.
Hunt is delighted to have earned a contract and is excited by the thought of finishing this campaign with a couple of fixtures.
He said: “Despite the frustrations of COVID-19 interfering with the 2020/21 season, it has meant a lot to me to sign for my childhood rugby club. The coaching staff have played a big part in helping me develop my game even during the pandemic, and the enjoyable yet competitive attitude of the training sessions is a great atmosphere to be a part of. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to some games this year and really testing my abilities alongside some serious talent.”
Cornish is also in his second stint with the Club, having previously played Colts rugby at Kingsey Road.
Since graduating from Leeds Beckett University, Cornish has been back with Chinnor for three years, lining up for our Falcons and Wildboys.
The hooker has also been training with our Senior Squad since last summer and the 26-year-old is thrilled to have been rewarded with a contract.
He said: “It really means a lot to me that my first contract is coming from Chinnor. I love being involved with the Senior Squad, but getting the contract has been massive knowing I deserve to be there. I can’t wait to get back to rugby, in whatever form that might take. It will be good to get some rugby back in the legs ahead of next season to really hit the ground running.”
Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe said: “Both Percy and Alex have played a huge part in our season to date. They have been here through the trials and tribulations of a year dominated by COVID-19. With no games to date, the pair have impressed with not only their on-field abilities, but also their character and impact to our culture. I am excited to see Percy and Alex in action, and I have no doubt we will see them both feature strongly in our Senior Squad next season.”
